RRSP Growth Calculator Canada
This RRSP calculator for Canada models illustrative RRSP growth to retirement using your contributions, time horizon and a chosen return assumption. Your 2026 RRSP room is 18% of earned income up to $33,810 — see how your salary translates into room with the Ontario salary calculator, and how your marginal tax rate shapes the refund with the 2026 federal tax brackets.

Start with the numbers you actually know. For income questions, distinguish gross pay from net pay. For borrowing questions, consider the rate, term, fees, taxes and insurance that apply to your situation. For savings questions, treat the rate of return as an assumption rather than a guarantee.
For Canadian tax, payroll, registered-account and lending questions, rules can change and personal circumstances matter. Use official government, employer, lender or account records to confirm important figures.
How RRSP compound growth actually works
This calculator grows your money with the future-value formula FV = P × (1 + r)n: today's balance (P) multiplied by one plus the annual return (r), raised to the number of years (n). Every projection below assumes a constant nominal 6% return, compounded yearly, with no fees, no inflation adjustment and no withdrawals. Treat 6% as an assumption you control — not a guaranteed rate.
Example 1: $10,000 invested once at 6%
Leave $10,000 untouched for 20 years and the formula gives $10,000 × 1.0620 = $32,071.35. Stretch it to 30 years and you reach $57,434.91 — the final decade alone adds $25,363.56, because compounding accelerates as the balance grows. The early years look boring; the later years do the heavy lifting.
Example 2: $500 a month for 30 years
Monthly contributions use the same idea at a monthly pace: $500 × [((1.005)360 − 1) / 0.005] = $502,257.52, where 0.5% is the monthly rate and 360 is thirty years of payments. Your deposits total $180,000; compounding adds $322,257.52 — nearly two-thirds of the final balance was earned by growth, not contributed by you.
The tax-deduction head start
An RRSP contribution also shrinks this year's tax bill. An Ontario earner making $80,000 pays a marginal rate of 29.65% (20.5% federal + 9.15% Ontario), so a $10,000 contribution saves $2,965 in tax — $10,000 of RRSP investing effectively costs $7,035 out of pocket. For 2026, RRSP room is 18% of earned income up to $33,810; reinvesting the $2,965 refund compounds the advantage further.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is this rrsp growth calculator canada?
It is an educational estimate. Results depend on the assumptions you enter and may not match a payroll statement, lender decision, tax assessment or account statement.
What should I enter?
Use your own income, price, balance, rate, payment or contribution assumptions. For tax and payroll questions, verify important figures with official sources.
Can I use this for a final financial decision?
Use it as a planning tool. Confirm final amounts with the relevant employer, lender, financial institution or government source.
Is the 6% annual return guaranteed?
No. It is an assumption you can change in the calculator — markets move up and down, and a GIC or savings account inside an RRSP will pay less than equities have historically averaged. Try 4% and 8% as well to see the range of plausible outcomes before making plans.
Should I think about inflation?
Yes, for long horizons. A 6% nominal return with 2% inflation is roughly 4% growth in purchasing power. The calculator shows nominal dollars, so mentally discount far-future balances — or lower the return input to approximate real, after-inflation growth.
Do withdrawals change these projections?
Yes. RRSP withdrawals are taxed as income in the year you take them, and your institution withholds 10% to 30% at source depending on the amount. These projections assume nothing is withdrawn until the end of the period.
